My Girlfriend Didn’t Wait for My Proposal and Invited Me to Our Wedding
I was stunned when my girlfriend, Everly, showed up wearing the engagement ring I hadn’t even proposed with. The shock deepened when she handed me an invitation to my own wedding—scheduled for five days later!
At dinner with my parents, I noticed the ring on her finger. I asked where she got it, and she casually claimed to have “found it” in my locked drawer while cleaning. Then, she revealed that she’d already chosen the venue, cake, and her dress. “Everything’s set,” she said, handing me an invitation.
Confused and hurt, I asked, “When were you planning on telling me about this?” Everly brushed it off, telling me to just show up in my suit. That’s when I decided I needed to test whether she truly loved me or was just obsessed with the idea of a wedding.
I called my best friend Chris, told him the situation, and asked for his help. The plan was simple: on the wedding day, I would send Chris in my place to see if Everly even noticed.
On the day, everything was as perfect as Everly had planned. But when the ceremony started, instead of me standing at the altar, Chris took my spot. Everly, lost in the moment, didn’t realize until the priest began the ceremony. She turned, saw me standing by, and panicked.
I calmly told her, “It seems like anyone could’ve been standing next to you, so I figured why not Chris?” Her shock turned to rage as she demanded to know why I was doing this.
“I’m doing this because you planned everything without me,” I said. “You didn’t even notice until now.”
Her face crumpled, and for a brief moment, I saw a flicker of realization—before it was replaced by cold fury. She ran off, sobbing, leaving me with a surprising sense of relief. It was clear now: she loved the wedding, not me.
