Every Saturday, I Worked in a Mascot Bear Costume Until My Boss Unknowingly Asked Me on a Date

I had a huge crush on my handsome boss, Jake, but I was too insecure to tell him.

Every Saturday, I worked a second job handing out flyers in a ridiculous pink bear costume. One morning, Jake passed by on his way to the gym and started talking to me.

Because the costume hid my identity, I felt confident enough to joke and flirt. Soon, his weekly visits became our special routine. He brought me iced coffee and eventually asked me on a date.

Terrified he wouldn’t like the real me, I kept avoiding his invitation.

Finally, I decided to confess at work.

“Jake, I’m the bear you talk to every weekend.”

Before he could respond, our coworkers burst into the room for my work-anniversary surprise. Jake walked away looking hurt, and I was so embarrassed that I resigned that evening.

The following Saturday, I returned to my mascot job—and found a skunk standing beside me with coffee.

When the skunk removed his head, Jake appeared underneath.

“I had to investigate after discovering who my favorite bear really was,” he said. “So, how about real coffee this time?”

I laughed and accepted.

For the first time, I stepped out from behind the costume and gave real life—and love—a chance.
