A MIL Kept Opening Her Son’s Mail – So He Left a Sealed Envelope That Made Her Gasp, ‘I Knew Something Was Going On, but I Never Imagined This’

My mother-in-law kept opening our private mail, insisting that family shouldn’t have secrets. After repeated warnings failed, my husband Evan left a sealed envelope containing fake divorce papers on the kitchen table.

She opened it—and seemed delighted. She even recommended a divorce lawyer.

When we revealed the papers were fake, her reaction exposed something worse: she had copied our bank statements and other private documents for a lawyer’s consultation, preparing for a divorce neither of us wanted.

“I was protecting you,” she told Evan.

“From my wife?” he asked.

He took back her spare key and asked her to leave. We changed the locks, installed a locking mailbox, and demanded the copies be returned or shredded.

The next letter arrived unopened. Finally, our privacy belonged to us again.
