I Won’t Use My Inheritance to Support My Stepchildren

I Refused to Share My $40,000 Inheritance—Then My Husband Packed Up My Belongings
For years, I stayed home raising my two stepchildren while my husband supported us financially. When my father died and left me $40,000, my husband suggested using it for family expenses.
“This was Dad’s final gift to me,” I said. “I want to spend it on myself.”
He quietly walked away. The next morning, my closet was empty. My clothes, shoes, and handbags were boxed up in the living room.
“Now that you have your father’s money, you can buy your own things,” he said.
We haven’t spoken for days. I wanted to keep my inheritance separate, but packing my belongings felt like punishment.
Was I selfish for refusing to share—or did my husband cross a line?
