My Parents Treat Me Like Their Personal Bank—But This Time, I’m Not Paying a Dime

My Family Called Me Selfish for Refusing to Fund My Brother’s Life
For years, I paid my brother’s expenses, bought his first car, and housed him whenever he lost a job.
Then, shortly after I had my second child, my parents asked me to pay for his dream wedding. I finally said no. My children’s needs had to come first.
Last week, my brother planned a business trip while his wife planned a vacation. Without asking, they decided I would babysit their child.
When I refused, they called me selfish and greedy. My sister-in-law even blamed me for his job troubles.
But their plans don’t automatically become my responsibility.
I love my nephew, but my brother needs to arrange his own childcare and manage his own finances.
Setting boundaries hasn’t made me a terrible sister. It has given me more time for my children—and peace in my own home.
