My In-Laws Declared Our Beach House Theirs, But My Husband Finally Drew The Line

After years of saving, Brian and I bought our dream cottage near the ocean. But his family soon began arriving without notice, claiming holidays and treating our guest room as their own.
At my mother-in-law Janet’s birthday dinner, her husband announced they had booked a two-week vacation—in our house—without asking. When I objected, he shouted, “You’re nobody here!”
Brian immediately stood and said, “You will never speak to my wife like that again.” He ordered everyone to leave after dinner and announced that we would not host anyone for at least six months.
That evening, our cottage finally felt like home again. We had learned an important lesson: family deserves love, but they must also respect boundaries.
