My DIL Crashed My Car after Taking It without Permission – She Refused to Pay for Repairs, but Karma Stepped In

I never imagined my day would start like this. I’m 57, a widow, living quietly with my son, Derek, and his wife, Lindsay. They moved in temporarily, but here we are, still under the same roof. Derek’s a good guy, but Lindsay and I never quite got along.

Two days ago, Derek left on a business trip, leaving me alone with her. This morning, I woke up to find my car wrecked in the driveway. A shattered wing mirror and dented bumper. I rushed outside, heart racing.

Lindsay strolled out with her coffee, completely unfazed. “Oh, good morning,” she said, as if nothing was wrong.

“My car’s wrecked!” I yelled. “What happened?”

Lindsay shrugged, sipping her coffee. “I took it last night. Brakes were acting up. Probably why it got banged up.”

“You took my car?” I fumed. “Without asking?”

“Well, you weren’t using it,” she replied casually.

My blood boiled, but before I could argue further, Derek called. “Mom, Lindsay says you’re giving her a hard time.”

“She wrecked my car!” I snapped. “And now she won’t pay for it!”

“Calm down,” Derek said tiredly. “I’ll handle it when I get back. Don’t fight with her.”

I was defeated but knew something was off. Later, Lindsay claimed she was meeting a friend, but I didn’t believe her. I called Derek again, and he mentioned hearing from a buddy about a girl who canceled a date, claiming she was in an accident. The description sounded like Lindsay.

My worst fears were confirmed. Lindsay had been sneaking around behind Derek’s back.

That night, Derek told me to pack her things. He was done. I did as he asked, and when Lindsay saw me packing, she threatened me. But it was over. Derek filed for divorce, ending a nightmare of lies and betrayal.
