I Let My Date Give Me a Ride Home — and Ended Up Learning Something I Didn’t Expect

My brother had been trying to set me up for months. To finally get him to stop, I agreed to one date—and that’s how I met Andy. He showed up with wildflowers, was polite, attentive, and genuinely listened. Dinner was easy and comfortable, and for once, I thought my brother might’ve been right.

At the end of the night, he insisted on driving me home. He was respectful, no weird comments or lingering, just a polite goodbye. I went to bed smiling and even texted my brother that Andy seemed like a good guy.

Then morning came.

On my phone was a PayPal request from Andy—with a full breakdown: dinner, gas, parking, even a “cleaning fee.” I laughed, sent him more than he asked for with a sarcastic tip, and blocked him.

Later, my brother called—half laughing, half apologizing. Andy had bragged to his friends about being a perfect gentleman… until they saw the invoice. He’s now banned from their pickleball group.

A week later, I saw a video of another woman with the exact same experience. Turns out, this was Andy’s thing.

But it taught me something: real kindness doesn’t come with a receipt. The right person won’t turn a date into a transaction.

I’m still dating, still hopeful—and I’ll always trust my gut (and order my own ride home).
