My fiancée attempted to keep my daughter out of our wedding, but her shocking admission caused me to immediately call it off.

When my fiancée, Sarah, started planning our wedding, I thought the hardest part would be cake flavors — not choosing between her and my daughter.
I’m 45, divorced, and a proud dad to my 11-year-old, Paige. She’s my world. Sarah had always acted like she adored her — until one night, while talking about the wedding, she said she didn’t want Paige as a flower girl.
“She doesn’t fit the part,” she said.
I thought I misheard. When I pushed, she admitted she hoped I’d become a “holiday-visit dad” after the wedding — that Paige wouldn’t be around much.
That was it. I ended the engagement that night. Her mother called me selfish, said I was throwing away my future for a “child who’ll grow up and leave.”
But she was wrong. Paige is my future.
When I told my daughter the wedding was off, she asked, “So it’s just you and me again?”
I smiled. “You and me, always.”
We’re still taking the honeymoon — just the two of us. Sun, sand, and ice cream.
Because I can replace a fiancée.
But I can never replace my daughter.
