Former President George W. Bush recently drew attention after his ceremonial first pitch at the World Series opener bounced before reaching home plate. His daughter, Jenna Bush Hager, explained that he had undergone lower-back fusion surgery earlier in the year and may have hurt himself while throwing.
A spokesperson confirmed the surgery, adding that Bush is recovering well and does not like making excuses. The moment contrasted with his memorable perfect strike at the 2001 World
Series, shortly after the 9/11 attacks. Bush also delivered ceremonial pitches at the 2010 and 2017 World Series, including an appearance with his father, George H.W. Bush.
