My mother-in-law began leaving passive-aggressive notes around the house during her ‘temporary’ stay with us.
When my mother-in-law Linda moved in “just for a few weeks” during her kitchen renovation, I thought I was helping. But her arrival quickly turned my home into a battlefield of passive-aggressive sticky notes and silent tension.
Linda acted like a queen, never helping around the house and judging everything I did. Her notes started as reminders but soon became personal attacks—expecting me to live like a 1950s housewife while she lounged around all day.
Jason, my husband, defended her and dismissed my concerns, which made me feel even more isolated.
The breaking point came when I was sick, and Linda left a note on my pillow telling me rest wasn’t allowed. Furious, I showed Jason, but he just nodded and walked away.
The next morning, I found the entire house covered in sticky notes—but this time from Jason, standing up for me and calling out his mother’s behavior.
