My Brother’s Fiancée Was My Childhood Bully — So I Gave Her a Wedding Gift She’ll Never Forget

Nancy wasn’t the typical bully. She didn’t push or hit; she used words, sharp and calculated, leaving invisible scars. Teachers saw her as an angel, and my parents told me to ignore her, but it wasn’t that easy. By high school, I had learned to stay invisible, eating lunch alone and counting the days until graduation.

Years later, I moved on with my life until my brother called. He was engaged—to Nancy. My stomach twisted as he raved about how amazing she was. I told him the truth: Nancy had made my life miserable, but he dismissed it, saying people change. I agreed to attend their engagement party, convincing myself I was over it.

At the party, Nancy’s fake warmth and backhanded compliments made my skin crawl. But this time, I wouldn’t shrink. I had a plan. Nancy had a deep fear of butterflies, a secret from high school, and I used it to my advantage. I ordered two hundred live butterflies to be delivered to their home after the wedding, with a special request for them to be opened indoors.

At the reception, Nancy kept up her act until I whispered a promise of a special gift waiting at home. Later, she opened the box, and the butterflies swarmed her. She screamed, sobbed, and panicked as my brother tried to calm her down, the handler filming everything.

The next day, my brother angrily called, accusing me of traumatizing his wife. I calmly reminded him of the years of torment I endured because of Nancy. When he continued to defend her, I dropped the bomb: I had the whole thing on video, and I might just send it out.

That was the last time I heard from Nancy, and for the first time in years, I slept peacefully.
