How a Simple Flight Taught Me the True Meaning of Kindness and Empathy

I reclined my airplane seat without a second thought—until the pregnant woman behind me quietly asked if I could move it because she was struggling to breathe. Tired and impatient, I refused, only to realize later how much that small act had affected her.
After we landed, a flight attendant gently explained that even a little extra space can make a big difference for someone in late pregnancy. Her words made me realize I had chosen my comfort over someone else’s need.
Since that flight, I always pause before reclining my seat and try to show more empathy in everyday moments. That experience taught me that the smallest acts of kindness can have the greatest impact.
