The Wedding He Never Came To

My fiancé left me at the altar. Three years later, I learned why.

At twenty-two, I stood in my wedding dress when someone handed me Mark’s note: “I can’t do this. Don’t look for me.”

Then he vanished.

For years, I believed he never loved me—until his sister led me to a small house. There sat Mark in a wheelchair, thin and pale.

On our wedding morning, doctors had told him he had a terminal illness. He left because he knew I would stay to care for him.

“I thought hating me would help you move on,” he whispered.

“You didn’t have the right to choose for me.”

“I know.”

His explanation couldn’t erase the heartbreak. But beside him, I realized that beneath my anger, I still loved him.
