Common back-pain drug may be linked to higher dementia risk, large study finds

A major U.S. study of over 26,000 adults found that gabapentin, commonly used for chronic back pain, may be linked to higher cognitive risks. Patients with six or more prescriptions were 29% more likely to develop dementia and 85% more likely to experience mild cognitive impairment within 10 years. Surprisingly, younger adults showed the highest increase in risk.
