Last night, I went into the garage, turned on the light, and saw this on the wall.

It was bright yellow, covered in black spots, with sharp spines sticking out like something alien. It didn’t move—just clung to the wall.
At first, I panicked. My mind went straight to “dangerous” and “poisonous.”
Friends made it worse: “Don’t touch it,” “That looks toxic,” “Is that real?”
After checking online, I found the truth: it was a spiny orb-weaver spider (Gasteracantha).
Despite its scary look, it’s harmless to humans. The spikes are just a defense trick to scare predators, not weapons. It also helps by catching insects in its web.
What looked terrifying was actually just a harmless, useful spider doing its job in nature.
