I was cooking ground beef and when I took it out of the pan, I noticed a strange object that didn’t look like beef.

A disturbing photo showing a worm-like object inside food has gone viral on social media, with many people fearing it could be a parasite or serious contamination.

The image, marked with a red circle, quickly triggered disgust and concern about food safety and hygiene.

However, experts say the reality is far less alarming.

The object is most likely not a worm at all, but a piece of natural connective tissue such as fat, tendon, or gristle found in meat. During cooking, these tissues can shrink and twist into strange shapes that resemble worms.

This can happen in foods like ground beef, especially when exposed to high heat, making them look far more unusual than they actually are.

While it may appear unsettling, it is generally harmless when the meat is properly cooked.

Bottom line: what looks like a parasite is often just a natural part of the food reacting to heat.
