When Karma Came Full Circle

Months ago, my husband and I were struggling financially. Rent was due, and I was expected to pay $350 as a bridesmaid. I chose rent and explained the situation—but my friend didn’t understand. She called me a bad friend and removed me from the wedding. We stopped talking.

Yesterday, she called, asking to borrow money. She and her fiancé had lost their jobs and were drowning in debt. She’d heard my situation had improved and we were buying a house.

I couldn’t forget how quickly she had ended our friendship over money—how little empathy she showed when I needed it most.

So I said no.

I didn’t argue or feel guilty. I simply chose not to help someone who had already shown me my place in her life.

After hanging up, I felt calm. Sometimes walking away isn’t bitterness—it’s self-respect.
