My Brother Has No Kids but Refuses to Share His Inheritance With Mine—I’m Furious

When my mom passed, my brother and I each inherited $90K. He saved his share, while I spent mine within months caring for my five kids.

Frustrated and desperate, I called him demanding half of his inheritance, thinking my kids needed it more. He hung up—and I told my children their uncle refused to help.

Two weeks later, my oldest returned with an envelope: my brother had secretly set up college funds—$15K for each child, $75K total, locked until they attend college. I had accused him of selfishness, but he had been protecting their future.

Now my kids ask why I called him selfish, and I have no answer. I feel like I failed—as a mother and a sister—and I’m left learning the hard lesson about patience, trust, and long-term thinking.
