What started as a joyful night at my friend Tom’s wedding quickly turned awkward. When dinner came, most of the buffet was gone. In a practical, joking moment, we pooled money and ordered pizzas, even sharing with nearby tables.
Not everyone found it funny — the bride’s dad was offended we didn’t share the last slices. Tom quietly asked us to leave, leaving my wife and me embarrassed.
A few days later, Tom and Linda realized the catering had failed. To make amends, Linda’s dad hosted an “After Wedding Shindig” with plenty of food for everyone. What began awkwardly ended with laughter and a surprisingly happy resolution.
