My Husband Forced My Mom to Sleep on a Mattress in the Hallway While She Was Undergoing Chemo – So I Had to Teach Him a Lesson

When I left town for a work trip, I trusted my husband to look after my mother, who was undergoing cancer treatment. But when I came home early and found her shivering on a thin mattress in the hallway, everything inside me broke. How could he do that to her?
I’m Julia, 41, married, with a daughter who recently left for college. Our home felt unusually quiet, but life shifted again when my mom was diagnosed with cancer. Her chemo treatments were brutal, and the doctor stressed she needed supervision. I didn’t hesitate—I brought her to live with us and offered her the guest room.
Daniel and my mom had never gotten along, but I hoped compassion would override old tension. Mom fit into our routine with grace, even helping around the house despite her exhaustion.
Then I had to leave for a one-day work trip. She assured me she’d be fine with Daniel there.
But when I returned early the next day, I found her curled up on the hallway floor, trembling under a single blanket. She told me Daniel claimed the rooms were “being treated for mold” and made her sleep there for the night. He’d even asked her not to tell me.
I quietly left, pretending I hadn’t seen anything.
When I returned again at noon—loudly, as if just arriving on schedule—Daniel greeted me with a relaxed smile.
“Everything was fine here,” he said.
I already knew the truth.
