My Husband’s Female Best Friend Tried to Take Over My Baby Shower—So I Put Her in Her Place

When I first met Avery, my husband Scott’s best friend, I liked her—smart, fun, easy to get along with. But after we announced our pregnancy, she began overstepping. Her constant texts to Scott about what I should eat, buy, or avoid started to feel less like advice and more like control. When I politely declined her offer to host my baby shower, she showed up at my house anyway with decorations, a cake, and a full binder of plans, acting like it was her event.
Instead of confronting her, I let her set up an empty party at my house while my real shower—organized by my mom and sister—was happening across town. Through our cameras, I watched her decorate for no one. We even sent her a photo from the actual shower as a final message. Furious, she confronted us, only to confess she’d been in love with Scott for years and hoped he’d one day choose her.
Scott shut it down immediately, telling her he only loved me and that if she couldn’t respect our marriage, she couldn’t be part of our lives. She left, and months later, as I held our healthy baby, I realized Avery’s interference had only made our marriage stronger.
