I Asked Him to Marry Me in Public—But What He Did Took Me Completely by Surprise

I thought I had it all perfectly planned—simple, sweet, and meaningful. After weeks of prep, I proposed to Jordan right in the middle of our favorite mall, surrounded by familiar faces pretending to shop. My heart raced as I dropped to one knee, holding out the ring.
But Jordan didn’t say anything. Instead, he reached into his pocket… and pulled out his own ring box.
He had planned to propose at the same time, same place.
Then I noticed something odd—alongside the ring was a folded note. With shaking hands, he placed the box down and said, “I planned this moment too. But when it came time to buy the ring… I realized something mattered more.”
I opened the note. It read: “Will you help me build our forever home?”
I blinked, confused—until he added, “I bought a house. Or… made an offer. But it only works if you love it too.”
Tears welled in my eyes. Between the ring in my hand and his house key to our future, I managed to laugh, “So… you’re proposing with a house?”
He grinned. “No…”
