I caught a woman having a mysterious conversation on the flight—when I got home, what I discovered left me utterly stunned

On a flight to D.C., I overheard the woman next to me say my wife’s name.
“Hi, Ellen. Did you send your husband off?”
Then: “He’ll be in pieces.”
My blood ran cold. I was supposed to be gone until Thursday. Who was this woman, and what was Ellen planning?
I flew home early, heart pounding, bracing for betrayal. But instead of heartbreak, I walked into chaos — glue sticks, scattered boxes, and our kids in costume.
Ellen stared at me, shocked.
“I thought you were coming tomorrow?”
I cracked. Told her everything — the phone call, my fear, my heartbreak.
She burst out laughing.
Turns out “he’ll be in pieces” referred to a scavenger hunt. For our anniversary.
The woman on the plane? Her old college friend, helping plan it.
I was never in danger… except of being loved more than I realized.
