Our Meddling Neighbor Got Our Cars Towed from Our Own Driveway—She Paid a Great Price in Return

Jack and I had only been in the rental a day — quiet suburb, temporary work gig. We were unpacking when the doorbell rang.
It was Lindsey from across the street, all pink and smiles, holding a tray of perfect cookies. But her eyes were scanning the house.
“Just a heads-up,” she said sweetly. “HOA rule: only one car per driveway.”
We had two. Parked neatly. But no matter — three days later, at dawn, tow trucks arrived and began hauling our cars.
“HOA violation,” the driver said.
And there was Lindsey, sipping coffee in her robe, watching like she’d won something.
I just pointed to a small sticker on the windshield.
“You owe us twenty-five grand now,” I said.
Her smile vanished.
Next morning, a black SUV rolled up. A man in a suit rang her doorbell.
“Ma’am,” he said calmly, flashing a badge, “you interfered with a federal undercover operation.”
Lindsey went pale. Her mug dropped. Her blinds stayed shut after that.
And her precious rose bushes?
They never bloomed again.
