When two men left our restaurant without paying a bill of several hundred dollars, my coworker burst into tears, afraid she’d have to cover it.
I rushed outside without a jacket and shouted, “You didn’t pay!”
One man stopped and came back, looking shaken. “I’m so sorry. My brother just got terrible news. We weren’t thinking straight.”
He paid the entire bill and left a generous tip.
