My Boyfriend Proposed in the Most Romantic Way on Valentine’s Day, but Demanded the Ring Back the Next Day — Story of the Day

My Fiancé Asked for His Engagement Ring Back the Morning After His Valentine’s Day Proposal
My boyfriend’s Valentine’s Day proposal felt perfect. Rose petals led me to a bathroom mirror where “Will you marry me?” was written in red lipstick. He stepped from behind the shower curtain, knelt, and offered me a beautiful ring. I immediately said yes.
The next morning, everything changed.
“I need you to give me the ring back,” he said, looking pale. He promised to replace it but refused to explain why.
Heartbroken and confused, I returned it. When he left, I followed him, desperate for answers.
He drove to a café and met a dark-haired woman. Through the window, I watched him slide my engagement ring across the table. She took it, hugged him, and left.
I stormed inside, convinced I had witnessed a betrayal.
“That was my sister,” he explained.
The ring had belonged to their mother, who died five years earlier. He had always wanted to propose with it, but his sister claimed their mother had intended it for her. She threatened to miss our wedding unless he returned it.
Afraid of losing his sister and hurting me, he had avoided telling me anything—and made everything worse.
“You should have told me,” I said, taking his hand.
He apologized and assured me he still wanted to marry me. I told him the ring could be replaced. What mattered was our commitment—and being honest with each other.
We left the café together, still engaged, with the misunderstanding finally behind us.
