The $300 Manicure

At our nail salon, Marissa told her husband her manicure cost $300—even though our regular price was $50. He paid without questioning her. Minutes later, she returned furious, accusing me of overcharging him. I reminded her that she had named the price herself.
She continued visiting, paying $50 and asking me to stay quiet if her husband came back. Then a younger man arrived, and they argued outside. The next day, her husband asked what her manicures actually cost. I told him the truth.
Months later, Marissa apologized and admitted she had used inflated manicure costs to fund hotel rooms and gifts for an affair. Both relationships had ended, and she was working at a bakery, rebuilding her life.
Eventually, she returned with her young daughter, whom she was raising alone. This time, there were no accusations or secrets—just pink sparkly nails and another sincere apology. The $300 manicure lie had exposed a marriage betrayal, but admitting the truth became her first step toward change.
