I Treated My Mother-in-Law like the Mother I Had Lost – What She Did Behind My Back Made Me Go Pale

After my mother died, Dolly became like a second mom to me. She helped raise my daughter, Chloe, and made me chamomile tea every morning. I trusted her completely—until Chloe whispered that Grandma had a secret about my tea.
I checked our kitchen camera, expecting to find something in the cup. Instead, I saw Dolly take a house key from a container hidden behind the tea boxes. She did it several times a week. When I followed her, I watched her carry groceries and medicine into a stranger’s house. Dolly refused to tell me who he was, saying only that he was someone I had chosen to cut out of my life.
I went to the house myself. The man opened the door, recalled a detail from my childhood that almost no one knew, and told me his name was Richard. He was my father—the man I believed had abandoned us. He admitted he had hurt my mother, but said he had tried to contact me over the years.
Dolly had known who he was and had secretly cared for him while he was ill. I was furious that she’d hidden it from me. I hadn’t forgiven either of them when I reached for my coat. But before leaving, I sat down and gave Richard the ten minutes he had once asked for.
