Why My Dog Howled When the Kids Left with My Mother-in-Law

I’m Rachel, and my German Shepherd, Daisy, had always been calm—until my mother-in-law Linda returned from vacation.
Whenever Linda approached my children, Jake and Kelly, Daisy growled and barked protectively. Despite my instincts, I allowed Linda to take them for the weekend.
After they left, Daisy paced and howled while Linda ignored my calls. Worried, I drove to her dark, unlocked house and found my children beside Linda and a strange man.
Linda claimed he was an artist painting their portrait, but the truth soon emerged: she was having an affair and had secretly brought the man around my children.
I immediately took the kids home and told my husband. A week later, Linda’s husband caught her with the man, and their marriage collapsed.
Once Linda was no longer around, Daisy became calm again. She had sensed the danger long before any of us—and her warning helped protect my children.
