For two years, I worked extra shifts and sacrificed every luxury to save for my dad’s knee surgery. But when I checked the account, nearly all the money was gone.

Panicked, I confronted Mom.

“It’s gone,” she said calmly. “I used it for something important.”

She had bought a piece of fertile land near the river.

I was furious. Dad could barely walk, yet she had spent his surgery money without asking me. Mom insisted she was thinking about our future, but I stopped speaking to her.
