Why Some Medical Transport Vehicles Use Green Warning Lights

Many drivers are confused when they see a vehicle with flashing green lights. Unlike red and blue emergency lights, green lights are often used by authorized community service or patient transport vehicles to improve visibility.

These vehicles do not have emergency priority, meaning drivers are not required to pull over or yield as they would for police, fire, or ambulance vehicles. However, giving them extra space when safe is a courteous way to help keep roads safer.

Because regulations vary by location, it’s important to know your local traffic laws. In most cases, green lights are a signal for awareness—not an emergency.
