A Russian lawmaker has warned that rising tensions over Greenland could mark “the beginning of the end of the world,” after renewed U.S. political interest in the territory sparked global concern.
Greenland has become increasingly strategic as Arctic ice melts, opening new shipping routes and access to natural resources. The region already hosts key U.S. and NATO defense infrastructure.
Russia has raised concerns that expanded Western military presence in the Arctic could threaten its security balance, especially regarding missile defense systems.
Despite the sharp rhetoric, experts stress the situation remains political, not an immediate military crisis, with diplomacy seen as essential to keeping Arctic tensions under control.
