A powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck central Myanmar on March 28 at 1:20 p.m., centered near Monywa. Buildings shook, swimming pools rippled, and millions felt the ground shift beneath them.

Tremors spread far beyond Myanmar—Thailand, Vietnam, China, Laos, and India all reported shaking. Ten minutes later, a 6.4 aftershock hit near Kyaukse, adding to the fear and confusion.
