A new neighbor moved in next door, and at first, it seemed harmless—he’d knock to borrow sugar, a tool, maybe a cup of flour. Normal neighbor stuff, right?
But then it escalated. He started borrowing bigger items, more often. Eventually, he asked for my $300 vacuum. I hesitated, but didn’t want to seem rude, so I said yes.
Then he disappeared. Days passed. A week. No calls, no answers, nothing. Other neighbors began sharing similar stories—he’d borrowed things and vanished.
Just when I thought I’d been played, he returned the vacuum. He claimed his apartment had flooded, everything was in chaos, and that’s why he’d borrowed so much.
I stood there, torn—part of me wanted to believe him, part of me couldn’t shake the feeling that something didn’t add up.
