Layoffs make headlines, but the real impact is personal. One Amazon employee felt that reality just two days before a long-planned vacation.

They were called into a brief HR meeting and told their role was being eliminated. When they asked about their approved vacation, HR offered no clear answer. The final paycheck arrived without vacation pay, followed by an email stating approved leave no longer applied after termination.

After checking the company handbook, the employee found a policy requiring approved vacation to be honored or paid out. They emailed HR with a screenshot.

The next day, HR adjusted the termination date so the employee remained employed during the vacation and was paid in full.

They later declined reinstatement and moved
