My Husband Kicked My Son Out While I Was Away on a Business Trip — So I Taught Him a Lesson He’ll Never Forget

I’m Jennifer, 40, and I thought my husband Travis was the perfect man—calm, dependable, a good stepfather to my son Caleb. I was wrong.

I came home early from a work trip and found Caleb, 17, dirty and starving behind a convenience store. He told me Travis had kicked him out over a month ago, threatened him to stay quiet, and had been throwing parties in our house while my son slept on the streets.

I took Caleb to a hotel, fed him, and planned my response.

With help from my friend Marcus, a retired cop, we staged a fake police call. Marcus told Travis that Caleb had been arrested for breaking into a store to get food and that $15,000 was needed to make it go away. Panicked, Travis paid.

The next morning, I filed for divorce. When he confronted me, I told him, “You kicked my son out. You lied. This was your lesson.” I gave every dollar of the $15,000 to Caleb.

Now we live in a small apartment, just the two of us. It’s peaceful. And my son knows—no matter what—I’ll always choose him.
