What causes the ”old people smell” and how you can manage it

As we age, our bodies naturally change — including small shifts in body odor. Thinner skin, hormone changes, and slower shedding of dead skin cells can allow bacteria to grow more easily, which may cause new or stronger scents. This is normal and usually not related to poor hygiene.

Simple daily habits can help. Using gentle, fragrance-free cleansers, washing towels often, keeping feet clean and dry, and wearing fresh breathable clothing can make a big difference.

Small bathroom habits also matter, like closing the toilet lid before flushing and keeping towels, robes, and trash bins clean to prevent bacteria buildup.

The good news: age-related scent is natural and manageable. With a few simple routine changes, staying fresh and comfortable is easy at any age.
