My Dads Girlfriend Tried to Upstage Me at My Own Wedding, So I Turned the Tables on Her and Everyone Applauded

I’m Ellie, 27, and I thought my wedding would be simple—me, my fiancé Evan, and close family. Backyard, fairy lights, barbecue. But my dad’s girlfriend, Janine, decided to steal the spotlight.

Janine, 42, glamorous and attention-hungry, showed up with a full bridal gown in “ivory” and even asked my seamstress to copy my dress. I didn’t confront her—drama was her fuel. Instead, I quietly planned. I asked all female guests to wear neutral shades and upgraded my dress to a bright sunflower-yellow gown.

On the wedding day, Janine arrived in her ivory mermaid gown—and immediately got lost in a sea of white. Meanwhile, I stood radiant in yellow, stealing every eye. During the speeches, my mom’s best friend said it best: “Some wear white to steal attention. Ellie wears yellow to shine in her own light.”

By the end of the night, Janine was gone, my dad admitted she’d been using him, and months later they broke up. I didn’t fight—my dress did the talking.
