For my husband’s birthday, I made a fancy dinner for 20 people. But he ditched me to go to a bar to celebrate. May 22, 2025 by admin

My husband Todd turned 35, and I spent two weeks planning the fancy birthday dinner he demanded—handwritten place cards, a spotless house, gourmet food, even gold on the cake. But an hour before guests arrived, he ditched everything to watch a game at the bar with his friends.

After six years of marriage, I was used to Todd’s entitlement. Holidays, parties—he took all the credit while I did all the work. But this? This was the last straw.

So I didn’t cancel the dinner.

I packed up every dish, drove to the bar, and set up the entire feast right there. As people gathered, I announced, “This was supposed to be my husband’s birthday dinner… but he decided the game was more important.”

Todd panicked. His parents arrived. My parents arrived. Everyone learned exactly why we were eating in a bar instead of my beautifully decorated home.

And the cake? It read: “Happy Birthday to My Selfish Husband.”

The whole bar laughed. Todd didn’t.

He said I “embarrassed” him. I told him he embarrassed himself.

Two weeks later, Todd is suddenly polite, careful, and way less demanding. Amazing what a little public accountability can do.
