My Mom Traded Me for Her Boyfriend and Remembered Me Many Years Later – Story of the Day

When Diane was eight, her mom, Erika, left her with her aunt and uncle, promising a quick “business trip” and a visit to Disneyland after. But the calls grew fewer, the promises faded, and eventually, Erika admitted she’d met a man in Italy and was staying there.

Years passed. Diane stopped waiting. Her aunt and uncle became her true parents.

Then, as Diane neared graduation, Erika called—“Come to Milan! Meet your stepfather! We’ll look at colleges!” Reluctantly, Diane went.

But the reunion wasn’t what she imagined. The first thing her mother said was, “What are you wearing?” Then came, “You’ve gained weight—we’ll fix that.”

At dinner, her stepfather barely noticed her. And then Erika smiled sweetly and said, “You’ll stay here from now on. My husband always wanted kids, and since I can’t have any, you’ll do.”

That was it. Diane asked for cab money to “see the city,” then went straight to the airport.

When she got home, she hugged her aunt and uncle and said, “You’re my real parents. She just wanted to show me off.”

Her uncle smiled. “You always have a home with us.”

And Diane never looked back.
