Mom of 8 Battling Aggressive Cancer Receives a Life-Altering Call – Her Journey Is Touching Hearts Everywhere

Already battling aggressive breast cancer, Misty De La Cruz—a mother of eight—was brought to a standstill by a phone call that revealed just how deeply her illness was affecting her family.

Diagnosed in September 2024 with stage 3 triple-negative breast cancer, one of the most difficult forms to treat, Misty’s first concern was her children. By 43, chemotherapy had left her physically drained, making even basic tasks painful. But the emotional toll on her youngest children, especially her 10-year-old son, hit her hardest.

In May 2025, a call from his school made that pain impossible to ignore.

She had tried to be honest with her kids, but when she sat down with her son, his question shattered her:
“Are you going to die?”

She reassured him that doctors were doing everything possible, and she was determined to fight. But even her strength couldn’t mask the fear in his eyes.

“That’s what stays with you,” she said. “Watching the strongest person in the house become the weakest—and knowing your child sees it.”

That moment—and the school’s call months later—made it painfully clear: this fight was never just hers. It belonged to the whole family.
