I Kept Coming Home to a Toothpick in the Lock—Instead of Calling the Police, I Took Revenge on My Own

After someone jammed toothpicks into my front-door lock three nights in a row, my brother installed a hidden camera. The culprit was a little girl in a yellow raincoat.
When I gently asked why, she told me her father had been a handyman before he got sick and “went away.” She was creating repair jobs, hoping to pretend he was still around.
Instead of scolding her, I offered, “What if you help me fix things?”
Soon, our regular “fix-it time” became a chance for her to share memories of her dad. Together, we even repaired a toy car he had promised to mend.
Months later, I discovered an old toolbox in my garage. It had belonged to her father, who once worked on the house. When I returned it, she held it close and called it “his hands.”
What began with a broken lock became a friendship—and a small step toward healing.
