A Moment of Understanding with My Dad

As a child, I accidentally knocked over the TV in our living room and anxiously stared at the shattered screen, dreading my dad’s reaction when he came home.

When he walked in, I couldn’t help but burst into tears and apologize, crying, “It was an accident, I swear!” My dad looked at the mess and said, “Kid, that’s not the first TV to go down in this house.” Then, he shared a story about how he’d broken his family’s TV as a kid while playing soccer indoors.

That night, we watched cartoons on the old spare TV, and I realized that for my dad, making memories together was more important than the things we broke.
