Mother-In-Law Wants Paid For Babysitting Grandchild

When you’re a new parent, help from family—especially grandparents—can be a lifesaver. My husband and I both work full-time and have a six-month-old daughter, Katie. His mom recently retired and offered to babysit, cook, and clean while we work. She’s amazing with kids, and I truly appreciate all she does.
But recently, she asked to be paid for babysitting. I was shocked. Growing up, my grandmother helped for free, and I used to babysit my siblings without expecting anything. It feels strange to put a price on spending time with her grandchild.
My husband thinks it’s fair since we’d otherwise have to hire someone, which could cost more. It’s causing stress between us, and I honestly don’t know what to do. I feel stuck and overwhelmed.
