I Won’t Use My Inheritance to Support My Stepchildren

I Refused to Share My $40,000 Inheritance—Then My Husband Packed Up My Belongings

After years as a stay-at-home wife helping raise my two stepchildren, I inherited $40,000 from my late father.

My husband wanted to use it for family expenses. I refused, explaining that I wanted to keep my father’s final gift for myself.

The next morning, my closet was empty. My clothes, shoes, and handbags were packed into boxes in the living room.

“I thought marriage meant supporting each other,” he said. “Now you can use your father’s money to buy your own things.”

We haven’t spoken for days. His reaction left me feeling punished, but I’m questioning my decision.

Was I selfish for keeping my inheritance, or did my husband cross a serious boundary?
