A Touching Bus Encounter That Completely Changed My Day

Most days pass without anything remarkable happening, but sometimes a brief encounter with a stranger leaves a memory that lasts for years. This collection of short, true stories explores those moments—from unexpected kindness to experiences that bring pain, confusion, or regret. Each shows how even a fleeting interaction can affect us deeply.

I was seven months pregnant and traveling by bus when an elderly woman got on. When no one offered her a seat, I stood and gave her mine. She sat down, holding my gaze.

Before getting off, she slipped something heavy into my pocket and whispered, “Always put yourself and your child first. Otherwise, your life will become as heavy as this.”

Puzzled, I reached into my pocket and pulled out a large stone. I was stunned. What I had intended as a simple kindness had been met with words that felt bitter.

Still, I refused to let that encounter harden me. I wanted to teach my child to treat others with compassion, even when their kindness wasn’t returned.
