My Husband Said He Felt ‘Too Sick’ to Put Sunscreen on My Back – Then I Saw Him Rubbing It on His Female Boss, and Our Son Made Him Regret It

At his company beach picnic, my husband, Ryan, claimed he was too sick to put sunscreen on my back. Minutes later, he eagerly applied it to his boss Lauren’s shoulders, moved our umbrella to shade her, and brought her a drink from the cooler I’d carried alone.
When I questioned his sudden recovery, he accused me of jealousy and overreacting. Our 10-year-old son, Mason, heard everything. After years of learning that kindness and respect mattered, he couldn’t understand why his dad treated his boss better than his wife.
Then Ryan ordered me to fetch him something cold. Mason volunteered—and emptied a bucket of icy water over his head. “Teaching you some manners, Dad,” he said before explaining what he’d witnessed.
Lauren challenged Ryan’s behavior, telling him, “Courtesy that depends on someone’s job title isn’t courtesy.” She also reminded Mason that dumping water on people wasn’t usually the answer.
Later, Ryan apologized for neglecting me while trying to impress his boss. Our marriage needed more than an apology, but that afternoon, our son gave him a lesson in respect he couldn’t ignore.
