My DIL Never Let Me Pick up My Grandson from Daycare – Then One Day, They Called Me Instead of Her

Brooke always refused my offers to collect my five-year-old grandson, Miles. When his daycare called because they couldn’t reach her, I finally went and met his teacher, Evan.
Miles called Evan “Mommy’s friend” and mentioned visits to his house. Suspecting an affair, I secretly invited Evan to Sunday dinner. But when he arrived, my son Owen stood up in shock.
The truth stunned me: Evan was Owen’s college friend and Miles’s biological father. After fertility struggles, Owen and Brooke had used him as a known sperm donor through a clinic.
They kept it secret because Owen feared my comments about blood ties would change how I saw him and Miles. Brooke’s visits concerned boundaries and what they would tell Miles before Evan moved away. Owen knew everything.
I regretted my accusation. With counseling, they gave Miles an age-appropriate explanation, and Brooke began letting me handle Thursday pickups.
Later, I reassured Owen: “Evan helped make him. You raised him. Those aren’t competing facts.”
He hugged me through tears. Miles was my grandson, and Owen was his dad.
