My Husband’s ‘Prank’ Triggered My Trauma — So I Left Him While 8 Months Pregnant

I was 34 weeks pregnant when my husband, Daniel, shook me awake in the middle of the night, screaming, “Fire! Fire!” Terrified, I rushed downstairs—only to find him and his friends laughing. It was a prank.
But Daniel knew I had survived a childhood house fire that destroyed my home and killed my beloved dog. He had turned one of my most painful memories into entertainment while I was heavily pregnant with our child.
I locked myself in our bedroom and cried all night. The next morning, after speaking with my dad, I called a lawyer and filed for divorce. Daniel apologized, but his words couldn’t undo the fear or restore my trust.
My father supported me, while my mother called me dramatic and urged me to forgive. Still, I refused to raise my baby in a home where emotional harm was dismissed as humor.
Two days after leaving, Daniel’s messages keep coming, but I’ve stopped reading them. His cruel prank changed our marriage forever. I chose to leave—for my peace, my self-respect, and my child’s future.
